How much does it cost to get a tattoo?
Prices for tattoos at Golden Iron Tattoo Studio are based on an hourly rate.
When it comes to tattoos, you get what you pay for.
At Golden Iron Tattoo Studio the cost of a tattoo will be determined pending which artist will be doing the work, the nature/complexity of the design, and work involved. It is best to book an in studio consultation with one of Golden Iron Tattoo Studio’s artists. This will give us the ability to discuss your tattoo needs, and give you a better estimate of cost for your tattoo. It is difficult for our artist to give an exact quote without seeing a design.
To request a consultation, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
It is disrespectful to the artist to haggle over the price of a tattoo. If price is a concern, speak to your artist about simplifying the concept and design to match your budget.
Do I need an appointment?

Is it ok to get tattooed if i am sick?
Getting a tattoo when your immune system is not at 100% is not a good idea. You’re going to need your strength and your white blood cells to heal your tattoo, something your body will not be able to do if it is already doing battle against virus and bacteria. In addition to this, it is very inconsiderate to bring your illness into the tattoo studio and risk passing the germs onto others, particularly your artist. If you are sick, and or contagious, we don’t want you in the studio. If you have an appointment, call and reschedule for when you are feeling better, we will much more appreciate missing one appointment, than having to cancel all of our appointments if we are sick.
Does it hurt/how should I prepare for my appointment?
Pain is relative, and although everyone has a different tolerance towards pain, the process of receiving a tattoo can cause some minor discomfort. It has been compared to a hot scratching feeling. Ultimately, the process of receiving a tattoo, and the minimal pain that goes with it, is short term. The gains of going through this process will result in a beautiful piece of art that you can wear with pride for a lifetime. We suggest doing the following to help you stay comfortable during the tattoo process:
- Get a good night’s sleep before the day of your appointment.
- Have a shower. Brush your teeth. Don’t smell.
- Eat a healthy breakfast that will not bloat or cause you any discomfort.
- DO NOT be intoxicated during your tattoo session.
- Bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated.
- Wear something comfortable that will allow your artist access to the area being tattooed.
- Trust your artist.
- Relax, sit back, and allow your artist to work without too much distraction.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes you may bring one friend into the tattoo workspace with you.
We are an open concept studio, so to avoid distracting our working artists, and to maintain an accessible, uncompromised workspace for our staff and other customers, please do not bring a large entourage with you for your tattoo appointment(s).
All staff members of Golden Iron Tattoo Studio reserve the right to remove anyone from the tattoo studio at any time. Children are not permitted in the tattoo procedure area.
Can I use a numbing cream?
Most numbing creams that are available to the general public result in short term numbing, and are topical creams that are not meant to be applied to open skin/ cuts or abrasions. Since a tattoo results in the breaking of the skin, we do not recommend these types of products.
What tattoo should I get/and where should I get it?
Design and placement of your tattoo is all a matter of personal taste. Artist at Golden Iron Tattoo Studio will give opinions on aesthetics in regards to both placement and design, but ultimately what you want and where you put it is up to you. Some things to consider when getting a tattoo:
- Do you like the design?
- Will it have a negative impact on your job/work/ family life?
- Will it hinder future prospective employment opportunities?
Keep in mind that, although the coffee shop down the street doesn’t mind if your tattoos are visible, the office job/career/travel plans down the road of life may frown upon visible ink. Although maybe unfair, these are truths to consider. Think before you ink.
Can I bring my own design/do you provide design services?
Yes. Bringing your own design is a great option for your tattoo. It can be anything you like, but must be converted into a design that can be tattooed. Not all drawings or images are suitable for a tattoo. Booking a consultation with an artist at Golden Iron Tattoo studio will give you the opportunity to have a professional go over your design, and determine what will and will not work.
Is there anything you will not tattoo?
Yes. All artists at Golden Iron Tattoo Studio reserve the right to refuse work on anything they deem blatantly hateful, racist, obscene, sits above the collar, below the wrists, on or near genitals, or any other area on the body that may cause the artist discomfort. All artists also reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, for any reason. Particularly mean, grumpy, annoying douchebags with poor attitudes, that are disrespectful, and too cool for the world. Leave your ego and attitude at the door. This will apply to the company you bring along with you as well, don’t let your friends ruin your tattoo experience. Golden Iron Tattoo Studio is a business and conducts its self accordingly.
Healing and after care
Tattoos take between 7-10 days for the initial healing process. It can take up to 2 months for your skin and hair to grow back to normal. A new tattoo takes about three to four weeks to look as if it was always there. Following the aftercare instructions given to you by your artist is very important during this time.
Your artist will give you after care instructions at the end of your appointment and will review the instructions before you leave the studio to ensure you understand how to care for your tattoo. These instructions are as important as the application of the tattoo itself, and directly affect how your tattoo will turn out.
Scabbing, flaking, peeling, dryness are all natural parts of the healing process. Severe scabs that are deep and thick may indicate a need to change your aftercare routine and should be addressed with your tattoo artist.
Do you do free touchups?
Yes. Artists at Golden Iron Tattoo Studio do one free touchup on work originally tattooed by themselves within three months of the original sitting. Tattoos exempted from a free touchup include: hands, feet, fingers, necks, white tattoos and anyone who had a blatant disregard for the aftercare given to them. Exemption of a free touchup will also include anyone who no-shows for a scheduled touchup, therefore disregarding the importance of the artist’s time.
Is my tattoo pemanent?
Yes. It is a permanent mark(s) in your skin. You cannot rub or wash it off. If you want it removed you will need to find a laser removal clinic. Think before you ink.
Will my tattoo fade/age/lighten, will the color hold?
All Tattoos fade or lighten over time to some degree. Think of your skin as a filter over the tattoo. Darker skins will mute or obscure the color. Lighter skin will allow the color to be more vivid. As your skin ages the colors of your tattoo will fade.
Do you do coverups/rework/fix tattoos?
Yes. We suggest booking an appointment for consultation with the artist of your choice so they can better assess the tattoo they will be working with. In regards to cover-ups: A cover-up will always be significantly larger than the original tattoo. Tattoo ink is not opaque, so a cover-up is more about disguising the old tattoo. Very dense, dark, and raised scar tattoos are difficult to cover, may require more than one tattoo session, may result in portions of the original tattoo to still be slightly visible, and are accepted at the discretion of the artist.
Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and be sure to include a picture depicting the current tattoo to be worked on.
Can you tattoo over a scar or stretch marks?
It depends on the severity and maturity of the scar. This is judged on a case-by-case basis. In general, a scar should be at least one year old, and have healed to your skin color. Please send an email to email@example.com to book a consultation with the artist of your choice so they can better assess the skin they will be working with. Scar cover-ups are accepted at the discretion of the artist.
Can I tan?
Tanning can, and will, damage and fade a tattoo. If you absolutely must tan, we recommend a SPF 30+ sun block. In general it is best to stay out of the sun and tanning booths, especially during the healing process.
Do you do all white tattoos?
All white tattoos are accepted on a case by case basis. The reason for this is all white color tattoos don’t necessarily heal all white. The color of your skin plays a major role in how your color tattoos heal, and white is no different. White tattoos run the risk of not showing up at all and/or yellowing over time. White tattoos will be accepted at the discretion of the artist.
Do you do piercings?
No. Golden Iron Tattoo Studio only does permanent tattooing.
Do you do ultraviolet/black light tattoos?
Do you do inner lip tattoos?
Do you do temporary tatoos?
What is the best time of year to get a tattoo?
You can get a tattoo any time of the year, but keep in mind that your skin takes more abuse during the summer with swimming, tanning and just being exposed to the elements more. Winter time is really the best season to get a tattoo.
Will the hair grow back over my tattoo?
Yes. The skin will still be the same as before. If you have dark or long body hair it might obscure the tattoo, if the tattoo is too small.
Can i shave the area of my new tattoo?
It is best to wait until your tattoo is fully healed before shaving the area. Shaving over scabbing, flaking, peeling, and dry skin can be dangerous to your tattoo. Follow the aftercare instructions given to you by your artist. For further inquiry please contact your artist.
